The son of Coonrod Birdsall and Velma (Roberts) Birdsall, William Birdsall was born in Standish Township, Michigan in 1910. He lived there with his family. By 1925, his family had moved to New York, residing in Richford Township.

William Birdsall married Lillis Julia Cranson (1912-1970), the daughter of Samuel Terry Cranson and Mabel Clare Beebee, marrying in Scipio, New York on May 5, 1936. They made their home in Auburn, New York.

William Birdsall was a mariner, working aboard vessels that sailed the Great Lakes. In 1943, he worked aboard the vessel St. A.W. Osborn. In 1944, he sailed aboard the Frank E. Taplin. He sailed on various other vessels, sailing out of Superior, Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Duluth, Minnesota, and Buffalo, New York.

William Birdsall passed away at the age of 63 and is buried at Scipio Rural Cemetery in Scipio Center, New York.

Birdsall rites - Funeral services for William G. Birdsall, 62, husband of the late Lillis Cranson Birdsall of Black St. Road, Town of Scipio, who died unexpectedly, Thursday, in Auburn Memorial Hospital were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Shakelton Funeral Home, Aurora. The Rev. Richard F. Kuenkler, pastor of the Scipioville Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Committal services were conducted in Scipio Center Rural Cemetery by the Rev. Mr. Kuenkler. Bearers were Albert Krueger, Vance Wood, Lyle Wood, William Whitten, Harold Babbitt, and Donald Birdsall.
