Burns suffered early yesterday morning following an explosion at his farmhouse five miles south of Atchison caused the death of Albert W. Bailey, 49 year old World War Veteran and Atchison county farmer, in the Atchison hospital at 2:45 o'clock this morning.
Mr. Bailey was using kerosene to start a wood fire shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday morning and when he put a match to the wood there was an explosion. In addition to burns he was injured about the chest by the force of the blast. A brother, Glad Bailey, was in the house at the time and summoned aid.
Albert Winston Bailey was born December 3, 1881, in the Sugar Lake, Mo., community and lived there until about a year ago when he moved to the Dalby community. He was a son of the late Joseph Martin Bailey and Georgia Ann Varble Bailey.
Mr. Bailey served in France for 18 months with the 137th Coast artillery and saw active service. He was a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever post of the American Legion.
He is survived by three brothers, Glad Bailey of the home, and Thomas J and Robert L Bailey , both of Atchison: and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bailey Andrews, Rushville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday aternoon at the Sawin & Douglass chapel with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. The Rev. W.F Mccormack will officiate. There will be a military service at the grave.
