CHASE - Carl R. Avery, 80 of Chase, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002 at Spectrum Hospital, Reed City. He was born August 11, 1921 in Cherry Valley Twp to John and Goldie (David) Avery and was a 1938 graduate of Baldwin High School.

He served with the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Asiatic Theater. He was employed for over 28 years with the Lake County Road Commission retiring in 1983.

Carl served as Cherry Valley Supervisor for ten years and was also Cherry Valley Assessor as well as Chase Twp. Assessor. He served as Trustee and Planning Board Chairman for Chase-Barton United Methodist Church where he was a life-long member.

He was married June 29, 1947 to Elsie Woods, who survives. Also survived by sons - Carlyle (Sharon) of Chase and Arvid (Nilda) of El Paso, Texas; daughters - Carl (Timothy) DuBreiul and Carleen (Patrick) DuBreuil, both of Reed City, Carlotta Avery of Florissant, Colorado, Angela (Danny) DuBreuil and Andrea (Roger) Shepherd, both of Chase; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother - John of Chase; three sisters - Nora Crandal of Munising, June O'Neil of Chase, and Georgene Lenahan of Paris. He was pre-deceased by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Chase-Barton United Methodist Church.
