CEDAR RAPIDS---Robert B 'Bob' Burns, 86, died Wednesday Jan. 13, 1999 in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born Aug. 28, 1912 in Yale. He married Velda Pickerill on April 18,1937 in Marion. He was a plant engineer for Hubbard Ice for more than 39 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the American Legion, Bethany Congregational Church and Knopus Club, a commissioner in the Boy Scouts and a World War II Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Velda; three sons, Charles and LaVern Burns, both of Cedar Rapids and Roland Burns, Norway; four daughters, Soleta Darrow, Villa Park Ill., Wanda Moss, Round Lake Beach, Ill,. Lexy Lou Hultman, Watkins and Janel Kramer Marion; A sister Patricia Cummins, Nazareth, Pa.; and a brother John Burns, Tucson, Ariz. Also Surviving are 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella Burns; three sisters, Dorothy Lisle, Bonnie Burns and Gladys Russell; two grand children and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday Jan.16, 1999 at Teahen Funeral Home, With military rites. The Rev. David Dyrland will officiate. Burial will be at Palo Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
