Lou Hill discovered later in life that he was actually of Polish descent. His father, or grandfather, had changed his surname from Elchynski to Hill after immigrating to the US.

MYRTLE BEACH Mr. Louis Carter Hill, 73, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Myrtle Beach Manor.
He was born March 22, 1936 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Thomas and Ruth Carter Hill.
Louis was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, and loved all of his friends there, and all of the ministers too. He was an avid golfer and dearly loved life.
Survivors include his wife, Margretta C. Hill of Longs; five children; and numerous grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, P.O. Box 1367, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578.
