Loretta B. Mellum was born August 2, 1908 the daughter of Ole and Barbro (Brenna) Mellum in Ulen. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Loretta was raised in Ulen where she attended school and graduated from Ulen High School. As a young woman, Loretta worked as a clerk for a several years at Reiten's Hardware Store in Ulen. She later was employed at the Northwestern State Bank in Ulen as a teller for many years, retiring in 1972. She continued to make her home in Ulen when she entered the Viking Manor Nursing Home in April of 2007.
Loretta was a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was an active member and enjoyed circle and church activities including serving as church treasurer for many years. Loretta's favorite past times included playing whist with family and friends and will be remembered for her excellent cooking, especially Norwegian goodies such as flat bread and krumkake. Her handiwork talents will live on through her many quilting, knitting, crocheting and embroidery projects passed down to her family and friends.
Loretta is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and five sisters.
Burial was in West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
