John was born in East Locking, Berkshire, England; migrating with his family to America in 1831, and settled in Monroe, Mi. around 1832, remaining in Monroe for the remainder of his life. He married Julia Ann, daughter of Colonel Peter P. Ferry on October 11, 1837, in Monroe, Mi. From this union, six children were born. He was survived by his wife; two sons, and two daughters. His oldest son, Charles D. Tull, served as chief clerk of the transportation department of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, and resided in Elizabeth City, New Jersey. Another son, Victor was involved in mining operations of the Pacific Coast, and resided at Puget Sound. His eldest daughter, Ann Lloyd Kellogg, resided in Washington Territory, and daughter, Mrs. Julia M. Carlisle resided with the mother at Monroe, Mi. John was regarded as an intelligent man and held in high esteem. His funeral services were at Trinity Church at Monroe and were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Brooks. The Masonic Fraternity took charge and he was buried with Masonic honors.
John was laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe, Mi.
