The following is from the Hannibal Evening Courier Post of Saturday, August 4,1934, Page 3. I wish to thank Mr. Gary Maize for his help. " Ira H. Briggs Dies Today. Funeral For Aged Man Will Be Held Monday Morning.
Ira Horton Briggs, 72, of Fairview Addition, died suddenly at 11:30 o'clock this morning at 106-A North Third Street. Although Mr. Briggs had been in failing health for some time, he was able to be up and around. Physicians called stated that death was due to heart trouble. Coroner Cecil E. Schartz was called and after questioning those present, decided no inquest was necessary. Mr. Briggs was born at Niagara Falls, Niagara county,N.Y., August 25, 1861, a son the late Mr. and Mrs. E.C.Briggs.He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Estelle Briggs; A daughter , Mrs. C.E. Brewer of Battle Creek Mich., and a son, Van B.Briggs of this city; three grandchildren ; two sisters,Mrs. M.E. Hall of Ralls county Mrs. Jackson Helm of St. Louis. Mr. Briggs was member of Fifth street Baptist church , and was well known here. He worked for years at the Atlas Portland Cement Company's plant, now the Universal -Atlas..."
