PRATER, JEAN ANN born May 14, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio and passed away September 11, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, F.D. Prater and her parents, Norma and Rudy Streicher. Jean Prater graduated from Walnut Hills High School, Cincinnati, Ohio and Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio with a degree, Summa Cum Laude, in the nascent field of Biochemistry. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts, taking a job at Children's Hospital and there met the love of her life, F.D. They were married in Albuquerque, NM and settled there. After F.D.'s service in the Air Force led them to spend a brief time in Montgomery, AL and Roswell, NM, the growing family moved to Dallas. Jean was a dedicated mother and wife and stayed involved in public school activities, Sunday schools, and American Veterinary Medical Association Wives Programs, often in leadership positions. She also represented Western College for Women and enjoyed her bridge games. After her initial move to Albuquerque, she quickly fell in love with the western U.S., an attitude reflected in her collection of Indian Rugs. After F.D. retired from practice at Casa Linda Animal Clinic, they began traveling more extensively. Over the years, they ventured in their RV from Key West to Vancouver Island, Cabo San Lucas to Nova Scotia and all parts in between. To her last day, she was always ready to "go" with enthusiasm and over the course of her life, she visited six continents with F.D. and had many other adventures later with her children and grand children. Her smile and pleasant personality were her nature and she enjoyed being involved with Scofield Memorial Bible Church, Newcomers, water aerobics, and her family. Survived by her daughter, Leslie Ann Prater; and her sons, Rudy L. Prater and Troy L. Prater (wife Beverly). In addition, three grandsons, Kyle T. Prater (wife Erin), Kevin D. Prater, and Seth H. Prater and great-granddaughter, Sullivan Grace Prater. Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 12:30 PM at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243
