Place of birth was Saybrook, before name changed to Deep River.
Graduated from the Bellevue Medical College; from the Post Graduate Medical College in New York City. He was a student of Dr, Knapp in NY, world famous eye specialist and was a member of his staff. He began his professional career at the age if 21 in Groton, CT. for 3 years. His next practice was in Middletown for 14 years. He then went to Springfield, MA. for about 10 years then moved to Boston for about 20 years. He then opened an office in NYC for a few years but came back to Hadlyme due to the poor health of his wife. He opened an office in Hartford and would commute daily until his death. He died in the barn of his country estate. Among his patients were Theodore Roosevelt and Charles A. Dana, editor of the NY Sun. In 1909 Dr. John sold his interests in a copper mine in Jamaica for $7.5 million dollars. Dr. John gave 1 million dollars to his brother Dr. Edward B. Morgan.Bearers were: William Gillette ( world famous playwright and actor and builder/owner of Gillette,s Castle), Dr. Ely W. Morgan, Dr. Edward B. Morgan, Dr. J.R. Calkins of Springfield, MA., Dr. Craigi of Hartford and Frederick Young of Hartford.
