Funeral services for Mr. Halliet "Bubber" Danel Sr., 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Danel, a resident and native of Opelousas, died Saturday, September 11, 1999, at his residence. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Danel was co-owner of Danel and Ryder Construction Company.
He was a member of the Opelousas Elks Club, American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus and Jaycees. Mr. Danel was a long-time board member of the St. Landry Bank and Trust Co. as a director. He was a founding director and once served as Chairman of the Board of First Federal Savings and Loan Association and at the time of his death served as Director Emeritus. Mr. Danel was an original member of the Indian Hills Country Club and was an avid golfer. He and Mr. Ryder built some of the older business buildings in Opelousas such as: The New Planters Bank and First Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Frances Clark Danel of Opelousas; a son, Hal Danel Jr. of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Ms. Denise Danel of Bolder, Colo., Shirley Ann Slack of Lake Charles and Mrs. Walter (Johnnie Ruth) Christy of New Orleans; three half brothers, Francis Burleigh of Church Point, Ivan Burleigh of Denver, Colo., and Larry Burleigh of Morgan City; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Lee Barry of Lafayette; and eight grandchildren.
