Ybeltje P. Gosses Jaarsma was born 26 May 1850 near the town of Ternaard, Friesland, the Netherlands, a Daughter of Goffe Sijmens Jaarsma and Aafke Douwes Lelia. Ybeltje's sister was Aaltje Goffes Jaarsma, who married Jacob Iebes Poortinga (Frans Iebes Poortinga's brother). Ybeltje P. Gosses Jaarsma was married on 25 May 1871 to Frans Iebes Poortinga at Westdongeradeel, Friesland, The Netherlands. To this union were born THIRTEEN (13P) children, as follows : Effie Poortinga (1872-1955), Bertha Poortinga (1873-1934), Edweard F. Poortinga (1875-1959), Nellie Poortinga (1877-1878), George Poortinga (1878-1878), George F. Poortinga (1880-1963), Garrett F. Poortinga (1881-1983), Dow F. Poortinga (1882-1976), Seib F. Poortinga (1884-1975), Sam F. Poortinga (1885-1981), Dora Poortinga (1887-1901), Maggie Poortinga (1888-1951), and Ella Poortinga (1891-1941). In 1888, Ybeltje and her husband, Frans Iebes, migrated to the United States, settling in Central Iowa near the towns of Pella and Otley in Marion County. For the remainder of their lives, they farmed land in this area. Ybeltje Jaarsma poortinga died 09 February 1915 near Otley, iowa. She was buried next to her husband, Frans, in oakwood Cemetery, Pella, Marion County, Iowa who had died a year-and-a-half previous. Next to their gravesite lies their young daughter, Dora, whose site is marked with a small stone. She had died at a little over 14 years of age.
