Swen/Svend's father was Knud Syversen born February 27, 1817 in Maanumseie, Nord-Aurdal, Oppland, Norway. Died: April 10, 1862 Mississippi River Island No. 10 Tennessee. U.S. Civil War; American Civil War 15th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin; Died of disease as Union Soldier with 15th Wisconsin Infantry.

The Mississippi River National Cemetery is now called Memphis National Cemetery and is located at 3568 TOWNES AVENUE MEMPHIS, TN 38122.

Over 7500 unknown soldiers are buried here since this cemetery was heavily used for re-internment of soldiers previously buried at battlefield sites.

SWEN SEVERSON

LAST RITES FOR SVEN (sic) SEVERSON TO BE TUESDAY
Last rites for Sven Severson, a Manitowoc county resident for 81 years, will be held from the family home near Valders tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and from the West Valders Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Severson died on Thursday after he had been bedridden for several months following his suffering a paralytic stroke last fall.

Born in Valders, Norway on May 6, 1849, Mr. Severson came to this country with his parents, Knut and Ingeborg Helgestatter Severson the same year and was only six days old when the family started on the voyage to America. The family settled near Valders the early part of September, 1849 and Mr.
Severson spent his entire life in and around the vicinity of Valders. On Nov. 29, 1876 he married Annie Marken who with eight children, Mrs. Carl Anbol, Blaisdell, N. Dakota; Mrs. Michael Klein, Chicago; John Severson, Nebish, Minn.; Mrs. Herman Wagner, Mrs. Adolph Wagner and Mrs. Leonard Rusch, all living near Collins; Sam and Albert Severson, living on the family homestead; two brothers, Ole of Milwaukee and Edward of Seymour and 24 grandchildren survive him. Six children preceded him in death.

He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church of Valders, being confirmed there at an early age. Rev. R.B. Walden will officiate at the services at the home and at the church tomorrow. Burial will take place at Valders.
