Etta Lou Boone was born to Francis Marion "Tack" Foy and his wife Martha Elizabeth Ann "Bettie" Gates. Etta was born in Kentucky. Her mother died in Etta's infancy and her father remarried to Laura Brady Brown, a widow with no children. Etta had a loving sister, Effie, just a little older than she and a brother, Oscar, just a little younger. Her father and step mother had two children Ina and Alva. Etta was well educated according to census records she went to college. She loved poetry. At age 22, on Christmas day of 1901, at home, she married Ernest Eugene Boone of a neighboring community. She and Ernest had one child Archie Altman Boone and sadly lost an unborn baby girl. Her family and she were dedicated members of the New Testament Church in that community and she remained faithful all of her life even teaching Sunday School in the barren plains of New Mexico when Homesteading. The little family of three moved from the comfort of home in KY to Homestead in the wilderness of New Mexico from 1908 to 1917. It was a hard life as it was for so many. While living so far away, she again experienced tragedy when her beloved father took his life. She was a Christian, a faithful wife and devoted mother. She was an avid quilter and the family is privileged to have some of her quilts to this day. She reared an incomparable son. She had health issues in the 1930's that plagued her for the rest of her life. She moved to a nursing home after the death of her husband in 1962 and there she died in 1965.
