Lynn Barber, 100, of Lee's Summit, MO passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the home of his daughter Gail Smith. Lynn was born June 20, 1913 in Eagleville, MO to Jay C. and Chloe Barber. He moved to the Kansas City area when he was 5 and graduated from Westport High School. He attended Missouri Aviation Institute and began his career with Trans World Airlines (TWA) as an instructor and then a lead mechanic at the TWA overhaul base in Kansas City North. During WWII he spent time in Arlington, VA servicing air transport planes for the military effort. Lynn retired from TWA in 1976 after 35 years of dedicated service. In 1944 he married his first wife, Doris Goodrich. They had four children and a great family that meant everything to him. Lynn was preceded in death by both his parents, first wife, Doris Goodrich Barber of 38 years, daughter, Marta Lyn and sons, John A. Barber ad Robert J. Barber. Also preceding him in death was his second wife, Ernestine (Tina) Palmer, of 25 years. He is survived by his daughter, Gail A. Smith (Bill) of Lee's Summit whom he spent his final years; daughter-in-law, Carol Barber and former daughter-in-law Nancy Barber Jewell (Gene); six grandchildren: Jason Hacker (Carla) of Chula Vista, CA, David Barber (Ashley) of Olathe, KS, Lauren Barber of Lee's Summit, MO, Kristen Smith Hung (Jeff) of Stamford, CT, John Adam Baber of St. Louis, MO and Lori Barber Dunn (Patrick) of Platte City; six great-grandchildren: Dakota Hacker, John Alexander Barber, Madison and Tyler Dunn, Emilie Hung, and Evan Barber. Lynn was a long time member of Parkville Presbyterian Church where he participated in the Mariners Group, was a deacon of the church, and held several other church positions. Lynn enjoyed life including bowing, dancing, traveling, fishing, and working outdoors. He was also and avid sports fan and volunteered for the American Boy Scouts. Lynn was a devoted and loving father to all of his family and church. Services will be at Parkville Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. February 16, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, North Care Hospice, or Parkville Presbyterian Church are preferred.
