William E. Mork, Scandinavia, WI, age 77, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born February 4, 1929, in Iola, son of the late Martin and Ovedia (Thoe) Mork.
He married Betty Schroeder on March 17, 1950, in Milwaukee, she survives.
He was a WWII veteran, having served in the United States Air Force. While in the service he was a jet mechanic and served in the military police.
He was a City of Milwaukee policeman for five years. He then served Waupaca County as a sheriff's deputy for five years, four years as under sheriff and 18 years as sheriff.
He worked in manufacturing for a few years before he returned to law enforcement. He was a former fire chief of Scandinavia Fire Department, on the Scandinavia Village Board for 10 years and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He and Fran Thompson ran the Lucky O'Hara Stunt and Thrill Show for many years.
He enjoyed shooting pool for Silver Lake Lanes, fishing, hunting and watching his grandsons play baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mork, Scandinavia;
two daughters: Susan (Jack) La Combe, Bloomington, MN; JoAnn Mork, Scandinavia;
two sons: Martin (Lori) Mork, Sussex; Jody Mork, Iola;
two sisters: Eileen Brown, Milwaukee; Phyllis (Emmett) Boyce, Greenfield;
two brothers: Gordon (Virginia) Mork, Janesville; Les Mork, Madison;
11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Mork;
a great-grandson, Sammy Burgoyne;
two brothers: Kenneth and Roger Mork;
a sister, Rosanna Mallek.
