Florida Times-Union, The (Jacksonville, FL) - Saturday, June 18, 2011

FL United States
ADKINS-KNOPF Clarice Viola Varnadoe Adkins-Knopf, affectionately known as Mrs. A, 82, went home peacefully on June 15, 2011. Born on March 30, 1929, in Quincy, Florida, she lived in Jacksonville for most of her life, graduating from Landon High School and UNF. For many years a steadfast leader in the local Girl Scout community, she was president of Gateway Girl Scout Council from 1969-1972 and received the Council's Thanks Badge and its Woman of Distinction Award in 1997. She led a full and wonderful life, traveling the world with her second husband and enjoying her work with H&R Block. She was an active member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the women's Bible study group she led. However, her first love was for her family, who will remember her fierce loyalty and support, her open heart and home, her deep and enduring strength, her easy and infectious laugh, and her abiding grace. Clarice is predeceased by husbands Jack Adkins and Richard Knopf. She is survived by numerous friends and by her children Anne Givens (Bob), John Adkins, and Guy Adkins (Charlene), Toria Hoke (David), Grecia Fenton (Bill), Allegra Knopf (Jim Kodilla); by her grandchildren Kristen Smith (Charles), Maya Adkins, Erin Bouknight (Matthew), Chelsea Adkins-Arnold (Keith), Duncan Adkins, and Spencer Adkins; by great-grandson Edward Jackson Arnold; and by cousins Stephanie Ibach, Robert Morris, and Susan Bayless (John). A memorial service will be held Monday, June 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Mandarin Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Girl Scouts of Gateway Council or to Mandarin Presbyterian Church's Next Step Fund. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I live. -Ps. 104:33. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
