MELBOURNE – Lelia Grace McGinnis, 85, of Melbourne died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in Melbourne.
Born June 21, 1923, in LeRoy, Ill., she was the daughter of Bert and Nora Sappington Banner. She was united in marriage to Winston "Mac" McGinnis on March 13, 1968. She was a homemaker and was employed as a payroll clerk. She was active in the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary and held many state offices, eventually rising to the office of California State Commander. She enjoyed driving a motor home all over the United States to attend meetings.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years; two sons, Frank Ferraro of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Steve Ferraro of Apple Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Sandy Smith of Melbourne; three adopted children, Tina Couillard of Yorba Linda, Calif., Lisa Banner of Arizona and Bert Banner of Crestline, Calif.; a sister, Marcia Salbego of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Cynthia Smith Finley, Mark Smith, Eric Smith, Kristi Ferraro, Tony Ferraro, Felecia Ferraro, Nicole Ferraro, Danielle Couillard, Sean Sullenger and Travis Wilkins; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and five sisters.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mac McGinnis, located at 122 Lacy St. in Melbourne. Arrangements are by Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
