Theron (Lefty) Ahrens, 81, of 82 S. Edison Ave., Elgin, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, following a five-week illness.

Born April 2, 1891, in Elgin, the son of Ernest and Hulda Head Ahrens, he resided in Elgin his entire life. He retired from the Elgin Fire Department in 1943 as a lieutenant. He married the former Mary Seyller May 17, 1911.

He was a member of St. Laurence Church, Elgin.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald and Donald Ahrens, both of Elgin; two granddaughters, Mrs. Therine Drexler of St. Charles and Mrs. Deborah Meier of Elgin; one grandson, Dennis Ahrens of Elgin; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Winter of Chicago, Mrs. Aira Seyller of Elgin and Mrs. DeLilah Murray of San Francisco, Calif., one brother, Thurbern Ahrens of Udina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in October 1971, one son and one daughter in infancy and two brothers, Thoreau and Williams Ahrens.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the O'Connor Funeral Home, Elgin, to St. Laurence Church for Mass at 10. Burial will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Hampshire.

Friends may call in the funeral home after 3 p.m. today where Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Theron was the son of Ernest and Huldah Head Ahrens. He married Mary Theresa Seyller on May 17, 1911. They had four children: Walter Leroy, Delores Marion, Gerald Walter and Donald Theron.
