Melvin “Mel” L. Harrison, 72, of Roswell, N.M., passed away on Oct. 20, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M., at the VA hospital.

Melvin was born on July 30, 1932, to Talmadge and Hazel GARRISON Harrison in Evans, W.Va. Mel's grandparents were the late John F. Harrison and Sarah CUNNINGHAM

He served in the Army during the Korean War, from 1953 to 1955. He moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1962. He retired from the medical supply field in 1995, and then worked as the courtesy driver for Desert Sun.

His love was for his family, gospel music and baseball. Mel attended the Dunbar Mountain Mission, sang in choir and then later was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, N.M.

Mel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; daughter, Connie Hoy and husband, Shim, of Woodland, Calif.; son, Steve Harrison and wife, JoAnn, of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Gina Harrison and husband, Steve Corbett, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; daughter, Lisa Dove and husband, Kevin, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five granddaughters; and three grandsons; sisters, Nancy Shelby and Shirley Landrith, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and the family has gathered to celebrate his life in Albuquerque, N.M.
