My great great grandfather Ike was the son of Thomas A. Lewis and Mary Congleton Lewis. Ike married Narcissia Felissey Dennis on December 26, 1866. He was 20 and she was 18. His occupation was fishing and net making. A lead mine on their property was of great use and they were able to make and sell sinkers for nets. They also did a bit of farming. They owned land in Verona in what was in 1978 known as the "US Military Reservation near Cherry Point, NC." They had 12 children, one of which was my great grandfather, Riley Thomas Lewis (my Dad's grandfather); Delia (who only lived 3 weeks), Icessia Merinda Caroline, Johne William, George Wright, Bryant Nixon, Sonnia (Sonny) Carter, Lucy Lumanie, Vannie Ray, Doctor Richard, and Lonie Ada. His wife Narcissia died of a snake bite on May 25, 1926 and he was buried next to her at the old homeplace cemetery in Verona until the government bought (seized) their property to build Cherry Point NAS, and supposedly moved them to the Federal Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC some time in 1941-42. (In what is now known as Monford Point Federal Cemetery). His cause of death on the death certificate is listed as "cancer on side of neck".
