Daniel Edward Eaker was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, his parents are Abraham Eaker and Mary Huggins. He was a farmer before the war.

Daniel mustered into service as a Private at Camp Fisher on 25 OCT 1861,he was 22. Daniel was assigned to Company E (Shady Grove Rangers) 34th Regiment North Carolina Infantry CSA.

He was captured at Falling Waters, Maryland and taken as a prisoner of war on 14 July 1863 and sent to Old Capitol Prison. Private Eaker was later transferred to Point Lookout 26 Sept. 1863.

Daniel deserted to the enemy on 25 Jan 1864. He Joined B Company 1st US Infantry.
