Funeral services for Edward John "Ed" Wernert, 91, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, with entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, with full military honors. He died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012.

He was born July 8, 1921 in Harrison County, to the late Albert Jacob and Clara Elizabeth Reinhart Wernert. He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Byrd in 1948 and to this union brought two children to bless their home. He was a proud veteran of The United States Army serving during World War II. He was a long time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Corydon.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Margaret Wernert; children, Arthur E. Wernert, Carolyn E. Phillips and her husband, Patrick; sister, Dorothy Byrne; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Wernert.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 655 St. Peter's Church Road SE, Corydon, IN 47112.
