Major Daniel G Caldwell, surgeon was serving in St. Francis Barracks, Florida in the army. He was relieved between 2-15 April 1896 by Capt Francis J Ives, assistant surgeon. It says he is of Scottish heritage, his paternal granddad, Daniel Caldwell was an early settler of Mecklenburg and his maternal grandparent signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. He married first to Maria/Marie Stuart Moffett Caldwell on 14 or 24 Oct 1894 and had 4 kids. Following her early death, he married second to Camille McCorkle and had a son.
He attended the Davidson College, the Univ. of MD School of Medicine, in Baltimore, formerly the College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating and licensed in 1885.
On 22 Feb 1906, he writes a 2 page letter to his sister in law, Martha. See excerpt in daughter Marie's bio.
