During World War II, he served from January 1942 to Spring 1945. as an officer in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater in New Zealand, Australia and New Guinea, and then in The Dutch Indies and the Philippines.
Following service in World War II he was Marketing Manager for the Economy Fuse Division of Federal Pacific Electric Co. Then, he was employed by the Chase Shawmut Division of Gould, Inc from March 1, 1977 until retirement on December 31, 1983.
After retirement at age 66 he took up flying as a hobby to show that at his age, he could do what younger men could not do.. In the course of the next nine years, he flew in all 50 states, including Canada and Mexico
Russell married Gladys Josephine Brewster in July 3, 1941, and divorced 1965. They had one son, Richard C. Pasco, born July 10, 1950. Russell and Gladys divorced in 1965. Russell married (second) Alleene Makemson Flinn on June 18, 1966. They remained married until his death September 20, 2002.
