Uncle of Bunny Berigan, famous trumpet player.

An article, from the Wisconsin State Journal, June 25, 1939:

"It will be a homecoming for the Berigans Wednesday and Thursday when Bernard 'Bunny' Berigan, trumpet-playing orchestra leader, brings his musicmen to the Orpheum theater.

"The event will give the home folks opportunity to see and hear the 'local boy who made good,' for Bunny started out here in the profession in which he now has a top-ranking rate.

"The band maestro has three uncles and an aunt and several other relatives here, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Berigan formerly of Fox Lake, but now of New York, will accompany their son back to Madison.

"Bunny's brother, Don, of Fox Lake, will be in town likewise for this reunion. Berigan's uncles are John. LeRoy and Robert Berigan, of Madison, and the aunt, Miss Delia Berigan.

"Uncle LeRoy is plant supeintendent at the Ray-O-Vac Battery Co.; Robert Berigan formerly played in orchestras here, while the third uncle, John, a salesman, lives at 716 Clymer pl.

"Bunny was born Bernard Benjamin Berigan at Fox Lake, Wis., about 34 years ago.

"He came to Madison as a lad in his 'teens, enrolled at Wisconsin high school, and was a student for a time at the University of Wisconsin, playing his trumpet in orchestras to earn his livelihood.

"From about 1928 to 31 he was a member of the Earl Smith-Bunny Berigan unit of an Al Thompson orchestra, and was also a member of Emil Flindt's orchestra which played at the Strand theater.

"Bunny played at hundreds of sorority and fraternity dances and at other engagements in and about Madison prior to leaving for New York, where his big chance came when he joined Hal Kemp's orchestra and toured Europe with this orchestral unit.

"Since then he has played with orchestras; led by Paul Whiteman, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Rudy Vallee and Ted Lewis. Some years ago the hot trumpet player organized his own orchestra, and has played at some of the most important hotels and amusement places in the United States.

"Bunny married a young lady he met while touring, and the couple have two children. Bunny's parents live with him in New York; his father is his manager ana travels on tour with the orchestra leader."
