"Hundreds of Friends Present at Funeral for Mrs. Gertrude Ford"

"A tremendous crowd packed the Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church at 12:30 o'clock yesterday morning to attend funeral services of Mrs. Gertrude Ford, Grand Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, State of Tennessee and principal of the Anderson street school, who was found dead in bed at her home here Thursday morning. The bier was banked with many beautiful floral offerings from friends all over this section of the country. An enormous crowd that more than equaled the throng that attended the services in Bristol was present at the services held in the Union Church at Piney Flats, Tenn., at three o'clock in the afternoon, many people from Bristol attending.

Rev. George F. Robertson, pastor of the Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church of which Mrs. Ford was a member, conducted the services in his church. He was assisted by Dr. Charles C. Carson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. The services in Piney Flats were conducted by Dr. Robert Yost, of King College. Interment was made in the cemetery at Piney Flats immediately after the services in the church there."

"Mrs. Ford had been one of the leading teachers in the public school system of Sullivan county for a number of years, having served as principal at Piney Flats for eight years prior to coming to Bristol as principal of the Anderson street school five years ago. Since holding the position in Bristol she had made a host of friends in this city. She died at the age of 45 years.

As a mark of respect all the public schools of Bristol, Tenn., suspended classes at 10 o'clock in the morning so that the teachers and pupils might attend the funeral services."

Excerpts from article most likely published in the Bristol newspaper.
