U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Mansfield College, in 1885, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced to practice law in Fort Worth, Texas. He was assistant attorney of Tarrant County, (1886-88) and prosecuting attorney of Tarrant County, (1890-94). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1911. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 69.
