The following article appeared in the book "History of Audubon, Iowa: Audubon Centennial 1878 - 1978", page 140 B.

"Harley Chaney, son of Ellsworth and Ella Brown Chaney and Lucile Lucas, daughter of William and Ida Drake Lucas, were married Sept 13, 1913 in Cumberland, Iowa. In 1922, Harley, Lucile and their 7 year old son Kennard, moved to Audubon and purchased the jewelry store from J.F. Baker. Baker had purchased the store from W.H. Cowles in 1917. W.H. Cowles started the jewelry store in 1879. Harley had been in the jewelry store business before he was 21 years old, being in business 10 years in Cumberland. Three years after moving to Audubon, they had a daughter, Rosalie.

After completeing a two-year course at the Omaha Optical School, Harley also opened an optometry office in connection with the jewelry business. He continued in this dual capacity until his death in 1950.

Kennard married Virginia Lathrop from Manning. They had one daughter, Carole Sue, who married Howard Hecker, son of Dan and Elvira Hecker of Audubon. Carole and Howard are now living in Anoka, Minnesota. They have one son Michael, and two daughters Laura and Julie.

Rosalie married Grover Davis, son of Marshall and Rose Davis who lived 8 miles north of Audubon. They now live in Audubon and have one son Timothy, and two daughters Kathleen and Peggy Sue. Timothy married June Engle, daughter of Tony and Clara Engle from Early, Iowa. Timothy and June now live in Golden Gate, Florida. They have two sons, Aaron Robert and Adam Marshall. Kathleen lives in Lakewood, Colorado. Peggy is still in high school and living at home in Audubon.

After Harley's death, his wife, Lucile, and son Kennard, continued in the jewelry store until January 1953 when Kennard and his wife took over the operation. The Chaney Jewelry Store, after being in business 36 years, was sold to George and Arlene Raub. It now goes by the name, Raub Jewelry, and makes 99 years of having a jewelry store in the same location. Lucile married Frank Sampson on July 22, 1972. Sampson represented Audubon County as a State Representative from 1921 - 25. They now live in Largo, Florida". (This article was written before 1978).
