In 1870, the McQueen family traveled to San Fransisco, California via train, then made their way to Junction City, Oregon, the home city of Lewis Cass Crow. Nancy Maria McQueen and Lewis Crow married in 1875. Their first child Chester, was born on March 11, 1876. When Chester was 15 months old, Lewis and Nancy moved to Palouse in Whitman County, Washington, where they began farming. Lewis was a school teacher during his early years, teaching in country schools. Later on, he served as a Senator for Washington State, so he had to spend considerable time at the capitol in Olympia, Washington. Nancy kept the family farm running with the help of their children.

Nancy was a widow when the 1940 Federal Census was taken. She resided in a house she owned in Ramona, California. Her son, Chester, who was a widower, lived with her and worked outside the home as a laborer in a nursery school.
