Roswell Cobb, 59, was the son of Enoch and Laura Elizabeth (Densmore) Cobb. He was a 24 year old farmer in Monterey, Massachusetts when he enlisted on October 18, 1861 in Co. E, 27th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts. He was discharged on Aug. 11, 1862 because of disability. His wife, Mary filed for a widow's pension April 5, 1897. He married Mary J. Holmes October 1, 1866 in Windsor. Their son, Edward Arlington Cobb was born in Chicopee, MA June 9, 1874.

"The remains of R. D. Cobb, a former resident of Windsor, were brought from Springfield, Tuesday for interment in Ascutney cemetery. Deceased was a member of the 27th Mass. Vols. in the late war, and was wounded several times. After the war he was employed in the railroad shops at Springfield, Mass., and later moved to Windsor to take charge of the railroad repair shop here. A few years since he moved to Springfield, Vt., to follow his trade as a machinist. He was a member of the Baptist church, and of the G.A. R. He was in the 60th year of his age, and is survived by his wife, Mary J. (Holmes) and one son, Edward Arlington Cobb. "
