Walter Arthur "Walt" Link was born in Williston, North Dakota on August 14, 1941, the son of Arthur Albert "Art" Link (1914-2010) and Grace (Johnson) Link (1919- ).

Wakter grew up on the family farm in Randolph Township southwest of Alexander. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Walter started his education in a one-room school house near the farm and graduated from Alexander High School in 1959. Walter continued his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964.

Walter was married to Susan Powell on June 3, 1962 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander.

With his college degree in hand, Walt and Susan moved to Seaford, Delaware in 1964 where he took a position with DuPont as a mechanical engineer. He continued working for DuPont, living in different locations where he was needed including Nashville, Tennessee until taking a job closer to home in 1969.

That year Walt moved his family back to the plains at Fargo, North Dakota where he took a position with Industrial Builders. Then, in 1972 Walter had the opportunity to move back home, and it was there where Walt felt most complete, raising his family, while farming and ranching for many years. He raised small grains and cattle.

Walt will long be remembered for his infectious smile and his good-naturedness. Over many years, he served on many local boards and through the years was a member of all the community affairs Alexander had going. He especially enjoyed the early morning Breakfast Club at the cafe, the local Lions and the rural fire department.

He passed away on September 14, 2012 in Alexander.

Preceded in death by his father Governor Arthur "Art" Link, and by his sister Joann (Link) Hetzel, he is survived by his mother; his wife; two sons; a daughter; six grandchildren; four brothers; a brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
