Rachel Boggs' birth month and year (Sept. 1881) was taken from the 1900 Letcher County, KY, census. The 1910 Letcher County, KY, census indicates that she was born ca. 1883 (she was 27 years old). In the 1900 Letcher County, KY, census, Rachel "Boggs" was listed as a "boarder" in the household of Joseph Jones' father and step-mother, John and Martha (Dorton) Jones, even though she was already married to Joseph Jones just two days earlier. Joseph and Rachel were married on June 6, 1900, in Letcher County, KY, and they were enumerated in the 1900 Letcher County, KY, census on June 8, 1900.

Rachel and Joseph had eight children: Manervia "Nerva" (Jones) Kimbley, Riley Jones, Nancy (Jones) Ison, Henry Jones, John D. Jones, Hettie Jones, Ada Jones and Patrick Jones.

It was suspected that Rachel Boggs might be the daughter of Loranza and Polly Ann (Roark) Boggs (buried in this same cemetery) or Joseph and Manerva (Ingram) Boggs. However, after further review of census records and after speaking with Lavene "Lee" Jones, grandson of Joseph and Rachel Jones, it appears that Rachel was most likely the daughter of Jesse Boggs and Elizabeth Caudill. Further research is needed to prove this connection. Rachel died sometime just before the 1920 Census was taken; Joseph was listed as being a widower.
