"MAN IN PHENIX SERIOUSLY HURT: Frank COMER Carried From Jail To Hospital After Accident // Suffering from a head injury, Frank COMER, of Phenix City, was removed from the Russell county jail to the Phenix City community hospital yesterday afternoon. // Officers said COMER was injured in an automobile accident on the Opelika road Sunday morning. He was arrested by Alabama state highway patrolmen on a charge of driving while drunk. // They said COMER did not show signs of being hurt when placed in jail, but later became ill and was rushed to the hospital. His condition was reported as serious last night. // Hospital attendants said he was suffering form a fractured skull. He was arrested by Patrolmen Bob SLAY and G. B. JOHNSON." "COMER's condition Reported Critical // The condition of Frank COMER, of Phenix City, carried to the Phenix City community hospital Sunday from the Russell county jail, was reported as critical early this morning. // COMER was placed in the jail Sunday morning on a charge of driving while drunk by Alabama state highway patrolmen. He was hurt in a wreck before he was arrested, officers said. // Several hours after he was placed in the jail it was learned he was hurt, officers said, and he was taken to the hospital suffering from a head injury." "COMER DIES FROM INJURY: Funeral Services For Phenix City Resident To Be Held This Afternoon // Frank Lee COMER, 50, 2019 Fifteenth avenue, Phenix City, died at the community hospital yesterday morning as the result of a head injury suffered on January 14. // Suffering from a fractured skull, COMER was removed form teh Russell county jail to the hospital several hours after he was arrested on a charge of driving while drunk. The automobile he was driving figured in an accident shortly before he was arrested by State Patrolmen Bob SLAY and G. B. JOHNSON, it was stated. // Russell county officers said COMER did not show signs of being injured when placed in jail, but became ill several hours later. He never recovered consciousness after he was taken to the hospital. // Officers said he evidently was injured inthe accident, but because his condition it was not apparent at the time he had been hurt. They said they encounter this condition frequently. // At the time of the accident COMER was out under a $500 bond on charges of assault with intent to murder, Russell county officers said. The case in which he was charged with shooting Henry GALLMAN was scheduled to come up in the next term of circuit court. // COMER had been a resident of Phenix City and Columbus all his life. // Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Rosa Lee COMER of Columbus; three sons, Marion, Houston and Cecil COMER of Phenix City. Two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn AKIN and Mrs. Elzaibeth WHATLEY of Phenix City; two brothers, Clifford and Robert COMER of Columbus; six sisters, Mrs. Del ARMOUR of Phenix City, Mrs. J. C. HASTY of Savannah, Ga., MRs. Lois De FRAVIO, Mrs. Beatrice LOVETT, Mrs. Catherine SWEAT and Mrs. Jessie MILLER, all of Columbus, also several nieces and nephews and two grandchildren. // Funeral services will be held at his residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. A. L. BONNER, pastor of West Side Baptist church officiating. Interment will follow in Patrick cemetery on the Buena Vista road. The following have been requested to serve a pallbearers: H. T.
