Wylie Elizabeth "Billie" (Jones) Nixon Goodman Kanan, 89, Cameron, passed away at 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the beloved Shoal Valley farm.
Mrs. Kanan was born March 11, 1919, on the family farm to Charles Garfield Jones and Martha Sophronia Stevens. She lived on the Jones family farm at the time of her death.
On April 21, 1939, she married Arlie James Nixon. Two children were born to this union, Cole Jones Nixon and Carolyn Kathleen (Nixon) Joyce. They divorced on May 2, 1950.
On July 25, 1985, Billie married John Walter Kanan, Jr., who passed away Jan. 6, 1991.
Billie attended Fountain School through the 8th grade and then Cameron High School. She attended Chillicothe Business College for two years.
She worked as a teller at Farmer's State Bank for 26 years until she retired.
Billie was a member of the Major Molly Daughters of the American Revolution, Hamilton, Mo., as she was so proud of her family's history. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, having a cradle roll card that she was there as a baby. She also was a lifetime member of the Cameron Historical Society, and enjoyed skydiving, jumping twice onto Jones farm on July 28, 1993, at 76 years of age; and again on May 25, 1999, for her 80th birthday; and making her final big jump at 2:05 a.m., May 7, 2008.
Surviving are Cole and Linda (Marsh) Nixon of Cameron; daughters Krista K. (Nixon) Baland of Arlington, Texas. Krista has two children, Loren Holland and the late Cody Holland, who passed away March 16, 2008; Linda Joann (Doss) Atchity, and Joann has two children, Thomas and Erica Atchity; and son Eric Doss.
Carolyn Kathleen Joyce of Richland, Wash.; children are: Karl Nixon, Melissa Joyce Glodo, Charles, Wade, Rolla, Rachael and Phillip. Melisa has three children: Lilanne, Franklin and Nora Glodo. Charles has four children: twins, Stephen and Skyler, Kylie and Kindsey Joyce.
She is leaving behind many loved friends and family.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, at the First Christian Church, Cameron. No scheduled visitation. Interment: at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, Cameron Food Pantry or Major Molly DAR Chapter.
