The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Ramaekers Patrick Funeral Chapel in Genoa with Rev. Murry Jay Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Edward H. Larson Post 144 of the American Legion. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
Eugene Kurth was born January 6, 1921, in Nance County, Nebraska, to Sam and Laura (Poole) Kurth. Sam attended District 10 School in Nance County. On July 6, 1942, Eugene entered the U.S. Army. He served in the 708th Amphibious Tank Battalion. He received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1946. He returned Genoa where he farmed for a few years. Eugene then did construction work out of Geneva. He moved into Genoa in 1957 and later went to work at the Elks Country Club in Columbus where he continued working until his retirement.
Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post 144 for 55 years. He enjoyed going fishing and hunting with family and friends and also doing some woodworking.
