He's my Maternal Uncle, but he saw me more as his sister ~~ He was one of 5 siblings, the eldest of 3 brothers & the 3rd born, to Corbin Estel Pennington Sr. & wife, Mary "Emma"line (Kiser), Pennington. (I'm a 6th sibling when his parents, (my Maternal Grandparents), raised me since I was 6 days old & later adopted me.) Don was born on a Wednesday, 6:50 AM on the 3rd floor of his parents home, on the corner of Park Ave., off of North "D" St. in Hamilton, Ohio. He was raised & died in that same city. Time of death, on a Tuesday, 1:30 PM, at the age of 75 yrs.,8 mo.,19 days, 6 hrs. & 40 minutes. Yep, right down to the minute. (On Mon., May 18, 2082, he will be deceased, the same amount of time that God allowed him on earth.) He went to Hamilton city schools, where he enjoyed painting outdoor country scenes. He hand-painted signs for the schools he attended & a variety of businesses in town. He was in the U.S. Army for a very brief period of time. He continued to draw & sell his paintings up to 1989 to the best of my knowledge.
He married at age of 21, to a Margaret (Sizemore), Pennington ( Memorial# 185453782 ). In 19 years of marriage, before their divorce, they had 5 children together, 3 girls & 2 boys of which their first two children, both daughters, Elaine (Pennington), Garrett age 50 years & Brenda Sue Pennington age 10 months, preceded him in death, along with both his parents, his other 4 siblings, a 22 year old nephew, Frank Pennington, that was killed in a automobile accident in 1987, a great niece infant-3 month old Denise Sackett, a great-nephew, Timothy L. Turner, that was murdered in 1988 at age 17, a sister-in-law age 39, Geraldine "Gerry" (Sizemore), Pennington, (died of alcohol poisoning), which is the sister of his ex-wife & the wife of his younger brother, Corbin Pennington Jr.. Also several aunts & uncles including his Uncle Carter Pennington, age 20, from a single automobile accident. Carter was killed 5 years before Don was born.
He is survived by his three children: daughter- Patricia Ann (Pennington) & her husband Frank Hinkel of Marion, Indiana, sons- Byron Lee & David J. (Angela), Pennington all from Mason, Ohio. Nine grandchildren: Brothers, Derek & his wife, & Brett, of parents, Elaine (Pennington), & David Garrett all from Hamilton, Ohio. Also, his son Byron's children: Jessica, Nicholas, Megan & Mariah. Chelsea, (daughter of David & Angela Pennington) & their two boys, Martin & Michael. Don is also survived by his his ex-wife & only marriage to Margaret (Sizemore), Pennington.
As a young teen, Don was overcome by Rheumatic Fever & he became some disabled, which progressively worsened. After his dad passed away, he later lived with his mother for awhile, then moved on. He never remarried & lived alone. He had 9 grandchildren. He never drove a car again in about the last 28 yrs. of his life, due to a car accident in Butler County Ohio. He was literally thrown 50 feet out of his car & landed on a roof of a house with multiple injuries & in critical condition. After a lot of therapy & a long time healing, he did a tremendous amount of walking. Besides his strong passion in art, of painting outdoor scenes, he loved to fish, sometimes with his two sons & camp out with them. He & his wife Margaret, each played guitar & sang together. He & his younger brother, Corbin Jr., who played the Mandolin, the Ukulele & Harmonica, would have a fun time together with friends & have toe-tapping, music & song sessions. Don & Corbin Jr. also played some on the piano. Don loved working out & experimented in making small furniture items for the home.
He loved watching Rick Steves' traveling videos & The Antique Road Show on TV. He loved the company of his family & always welcomed them in his home & always asked if U would like a cup of (his "strong, hair-raising") coffee. He had different jobs in his time, such as a grass-cutter in the cemetery he is now at rest in. He once had his own furniture upholstery shop next to his mother's Sewing Shop on Main St., off the corner of So. "B" St. in west Hamilton, OH., 45013.
He picked oranges in the state of Florida, fell partially down the tree, breaking his left leg. It was set wrong, crippling him for life. Don smoked cigarettes most of his life & as a result, succumb to emphysema.
His Dad Corbin Sr., was a coal-miner for 23 years, then later, when moved to east Hamilton, Ohio, worked at Fisher Body factory, Leshner's ( a factory), & Beckett Paper Co. His mother, Mary "EMMA"line (KISER), Pennington, also used to work at Leshner's & later had her own restaurant on South 8th Street, across from Jefferson Elementary School in east Hamilton, Ohio, then later, opened her own business, "The Sewing Shop" as a seamstress, with 1 or 2 employees that she hired, in the west area of Hamilton, 45013. His parents & siblings all went to church growing up.
