MRS. JOHANNA BRIELE IS CALLED BY DEATH
On Saturday morning Wilkes-Barre lost an octogenarian when death claimed Johanna, wife of Mr. Phillip Briele, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Wagner, 202 Kidder street, with whom she made her home for the past few years. Mrs. Briele was born in Germany 80 years ago last August and came to this country immediately after her marriage, with her husband.
For more than fifty years she resided in this city where her kind disposition and Christian character had won her a host of friends. For the past year old age had been gradually telling upon her, until a few weeks ago when she was compelled to take to her bed. She was one of the oldest members of Christ Lutheran Church, where she was a faithful attendant until old age prevented her regularity at the services.
Mrs. Briele is survived by her husband, Philip, who is in his 84th year, and the following children: Mrs. Caroline Schaffer, of this city; Philip, Jr., of Watervliet, N. Y.; Catherine, wife of Martin Wagner, of this city, and John of this city; also one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Stein of Wilkes-Barre. Funeral services will be held at the home of her daughter, 202 Kidder street, on Monday afternoon, with further services in Christ Lutheran Church at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. P. N. Wohlsen, pastor.
