SCARBOROUGH -- Freda Ida Adams, 92, of Scarborough, passed away on Sept. 26, 2012.
She was born in New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Gertrude and Edward Patterson. As a child, she and her family moved to Whitinsville, Mass., where she completed high school and worked locally. In her late 20s, her parents bought a farmhouse and they all moved to South Portland where she met her husband, Albert Adams, and they had two daughters. In 1968, the family moved to Scarborough.
Along the way, Freda worked at Porteous, and Dodge the Florist. She did product surveys, and opened a ceramics shop, Country Lane Ceramics, where people came to paint. She loved arts and crafts, and painting, most recently watercolors, and continued to paint right up until her passing.
Also, in the past few years, she took up jewelry making and made many earrings, bracelets, and necklaces for family members and friends. Freda was always willing to share her knowledge of crafts with friends and family, and loved having people drop in to visit whether just for a cup of tea or to play cards.
She enjoyed reading and loved to shop for just about anything including groceries. She loved her home and her gardens, and with the help of her many friends and family who would check in on her, run errands for her, plow her driveway, fix what might be broken, mow the lawn, and bring a meal or invite her out once in awhile she was able to remain in her home. She was truly, truly appreciative of everyone and greatly enjoyed the company.
She was predeceased by her husband Albert in 2004; also her daughter Dawn Adams in 1992. Freda is survived by a daughter, Deborah Adams-Ciccone; a son-in-law Joseph Ciccone; two grandchildren, Jeremy Ciccone and Darcy Ciccone Remillard; and their spouses and family.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. Arrangements by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland.
