Nannie Helen Jacks Hinshaw was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Jacks and Harriet Jane Robertson Jacks. She married Ira Emmett Hinshaw, son of Thomas William & Vina Arvella Counts Hinshaw, on December 29, 1918, in Franklin County, Tennessee.

To this union was born nine children - Etta Epsie (Bird), Mary Jane (Long), John Lawson, Lester Donald, Opal Ernestine (Craig), Bertie Lou (Stapler), Alvin Ray, Shirley Fay (Lohenitz), and Helen Dean (Young).

Nannie died shortly after the birth of her youngest daughter, having suffered complications during parturition. At the time of her death, the family lived in the Mill Village in Huntsville on Alpha Street, which is where she passed away, surrounded by her family and friends.

News of Nannie's death was published in The Huntsville Times on January 4, 1945:

Rites Tomorrow For Mrs. Hinshaw
Funeral services for Mrs. Nannie Hinshaw, 43, who died last night at 8 o'clock at her home, 206 A street, Merrimack, will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at Neil's chapel, near Owens Cross Roads.
The Rev. P.W. Brown will officiate. Interment, directed by Spry's funeral home, will be in the chapel cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mitchell Drake, Deamer Pinkerton, Walter, Daniel and Winfred Byrd and Paul Stone.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Maude McPeters, Mrs. (R)ocine Young, Mrs. Josie Byrd, Mrs. Lorene Byrd, Mrs. Mary Howell and Mrs. Viney Elliott.
The deceased, who was a member of the Holiness church, is survived by her husband, I.E. Hinshaw; six daughters, Epsie, Mary, Opal, Birtie Lou, Faye and Helen Hinshaw, all at home; three sons, Lawson, Lester and Ray Hinshaw, also at home; one sister, Mrs. Ella Burke of Huntsville, and three brothers, Richard Jacks, Brinkley, Ark., Jim Jacks, Francisco, Ala., and Coley Jacks, Tuscaloosa.
