John Dee Odle was married to Amy Melvina McCarty, 20 Jul 1882, Burnet, Texas. Born to this union were two children, John Dee Odle (1885-1970) and Cora May (Odle) Singleton (1886-1971).
In 1886, John Dee Odle murdered his father-in law Bryant VanBuren McCarty (16197379). Odle shot McCarty over a dispute about cattle and other property after Odle's marriage to Bryant's daughter Amy Melonia McCarty. Odle then fled the state of Texas for the north, possible Montana with his partner and Bryant's own son, 'Epp' McCarty. To the families knowledge, Epp was never heard from again. Odle escaped the Texas Rangers and started a new life. Bryant McCarty died about a week after the shooting. Amy subsequently married William Merrit Phipps (107245177).
