Hazel Achilles

WELLS RIVER -Hazel I. (Bennett) Achilles, died Nov. 11, 2005, at her residence, following a brief illness.

She was born in Corinth on March 28, 1931, a daughter of Howard Bennett and Clara (Hood) Bennett. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1951 and worked for the Van Raalte Company until she married Albert Achilles June 1, 1952. In 1959, they moved to West Groton, where they raised their six children. For several years, she made the chicken pies for the Groton Fall Festival Supper.

She enjoyed growing flowers, caring for her vegetable garden, and making many Christmas crafts for family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Albert; a daughter, Hazel; a son Neil; two brothers,. Darold and Gordon Bennett; and two sisters, Dorothy Caswell and Velma Larocque Chase.

Survivors include two sons: Albert and his wife, Diane Achilles, of North Danville; and David and his wife, Penny Achilles, of Groton; three daught-ers : Donna and her husband, Cliff Batchelder, of Haverhill, NH; Nancy Ordway of Fairlee, and Caroline and her husband, Marco Salcido, of Tucson, Ariz; 11 granchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Lynford Bennett of Springield; three sisters; Amber Beard of Sacramento, Calif.; Marjorie Lacalaide of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and Lois Boles of South Royalton;. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 14, at the Ricker Funeral Home in Woodsville, N.H., with Rev. Elizabeth Upton officiating. Burial took place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph.
