Paul D. Carre, who taught history at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills for more than 60 years, died Sunday of heart failure at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie. He was 89.
Mr. Carre was a 1921 graduate of McDonogh. He then attended the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut after which he returned to Maryland to attend the Johns Hopkins University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
After his graduation from Johns Hopkins in 1925, Mr. Carre joined the faculty of the McDonogh School, where he taught history for more than 60 years, retiring as head of the history department in 1971. He continued to teach part time until 1987.
His wife, the former Jane P. Dawson, died in 1985. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage and were the parents of three children.
Surviving are his second wife and his three children whose names are withheld for privacy reasons.
