Maxine Clara Nelson, the daughter of Nels and Clara Anderson, was born March 30, 1928 in Stanton, IA. She passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Crystal Pines Rehab Center, Crystal Lake, Illinois at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 27 days.

Maxine was raised in Stanton and graduated with the Stanton High School Class of l945. Following graduation, she worked for the Stanton Telephone Company. Maxine was united in marriage to Carl L. Nelson on July 10, 1946 in Stanton, IA. Maxine and Carl made Illinois their home, having lived in Chicago, Palatine, Hanover Park, Schaumburg, Streamwood and Woodstock. She was a homemaker, waitress and childcare provider for her grandchildren and others. Maxine moved back to Stanton in early 1992 to help care for her parents. She returned to Illinois in 2004 and on September 9, 2009, Maxine became a resident of Crystal Pines Rehab Center.

She enjoyed life and having fun, along with crocheting, embroidering, collecting dolls and geese, macramé, reading, writing poems, painting, quilting and crafting. Maxine's friends were dear to her and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid bowler and Chicago Cubs Fan. Maxine was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, participating in choir and WELCA and American Legion Auxiliary both of Stanton. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Illinois, having served as Secretary, Vice President and President. Maxine was a past member of Advent Lutheran Church in Streamwood, IL; and Messiah Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL.

Maxine was preceded death by her parents; husband, Carl Nelson on February 28, 1987; and daughter, Pamela.

Maxine is survived by her three children: Bonnie Schumacher and husband Mike of Wauconda, IL; Sheryl Schon and husband Dennis of McHenry, IL; and Brad Nelson and wife Denise of Roscoe, IL; 8 grandchildren: Kim (Rob) Connor of Carmel, IN; Lori (Jeff) Szamlewski of McHenry, IL; Scott Schon of McHenry, IL; Kristen (Troy) McCarthy of McHenry, IL; Stephanie Schon of McHenry, IL; Brandon, Nathan, and Jessica Nelson of Roscoe, IL; 7 great-grandchildren: Corey, Taylor, and Kevin Szamlewski; Kaytlin and Courtney Connor; Addison and Danica McCarthy; and sister, Marveline Isaacson of Stanton, IA; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, Iowa Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Sunday afternoon at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
