Funeral services will be held for Tennie Barton, 93, of Gatesville, on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the Gatesville Funeral Home with the Rev. James Adams officiating. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery under the direction of Gatesville Funeral Home.
Barton was born to the late W. M. and Nannie Sparkman Moore on Jan. 25, 1911, in Commanche. She passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at a Clifton nursing home.
Barton grew up and attended school in Coryell County. She married Vernon Barton in 1931, and they resided all their married life in the Mountain Community. She was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Barton, on March 10, 1975; and her son, Vernon Dale Barton in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Bernice Dreyer and husband, Ervin, of Clifton; two sons, Charles Barton and wife, Sarah, of Waco, and Joe P. Barton and wife, Glenda, of Gatesville; two sisters, Clara Bailey of North Carolina, and Dollie Stephens of California; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
