Funeral services for Alex Abig, 70, of 585 Elizabeth St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zacherl Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church.

The Rev. G. J. Ehlert will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is after 3 .m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Abig was a 40-year employee of Fred Rueping Leather Co. He served as general supervisor of production, a hide finisher, a member of the experimental research and development crew and a vice-president of manufacturing and tanner with the company.

He was a former plant manager of Albert Trostel & Sons Co. of Milwaukee and also served as a tanner and general manager of firms in Eagle, Ottawa Canada and Grand Haven, Mich.

From 1957 to 1972 he represented firms of Rueping and Trostel on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Technology Committee.

Mr. Abig became a member of the American Leather Chemists Association in 19146. In 1951 he founded and organized the Wisconsin Tanner's Production Club Symposium and served as first president of that group. In 1956 he was selected to sit on the board of directors of the Tanner's Council of America. He retired from business in 1972.

Mr. Abig died Friday, Jan. 4, 1980, at St. Agnes Hospital following an apparent heart attack. He was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Grimm, Russia, a son of George and Katherine Abig. He married Lillian Rauls Sept. 12, 1934 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.

He was educated in the Fond du Lac School system and studied chemistry at University of Wisconsin. Mr. Abig completed leather technology courses at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and at University of Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife; one son, one brother, Jacob of Waupun; one sister, Miss Emma Abig of Fond du Lac and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
