Bill as he was known and called was the son of Christopher Columbus and Lillian Olivia "Lillie" (KENDALL) DOBY, Bill served in World War I, it is said he was part of the Fighting 69th. He was injured with schrapnel and suffered with it for many years, he had a leg removed because of the schrapnel still in his leg in 1957 and died of gangrene after his leg was removed.

According to application for marriage License of Alta Lucile PORTER and William Jackson "Bill" DOBY. William J. DOBY had been married before. Was divorced in 1925 in Raton, NM, the grounds of the divorce were desertion. He married 8 Jun 1929 in Grand Junction, Mesa, Colorado to Alta Lucile PORTER daughter of John Millard and Emma Amanda (McADAMS) PORTER. They had one son John William DOBY.

WILLIAM DOBY RITES ARE TODAY AT 4 P. M.
Funeral services for William J. DOBY, 66, of Appleton, who died Friday night, will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Callahan-Edfast Chapel. The Rev. Rufus MILLER, chaplain at the VA Hospital, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens of the Valley.
Honorary pallbearers will be D. C. BARTON and Clarence STODDART. Active pallbearers will be Ray WOODCOCK, A. F. WILEY, Percy WELCH, Clarence COOK, Howard ROLAND and Curtis LASHBROOK.
Mr. DOBY was born April 7, 1891, in Ashland, Kan. A resident of Grand Junction area for 28 years, he was married here on June 8, 1929, to the former Lucille PORTER, who survives. He was a veteran of World War I.
Additional survivors are a son John William DOBY, of the U. S. Navy; two brothers, Don and Ralph DOBY; and four sisters, Mrs. J. C. CARTER of Laverne, Okla.; Mrs. Maho MIX of Buffalo, Okla.; Mrs. Von CARUSEN of Marlow, Okla., and Mrs. Grace ELLIOTT of Las Vegas, N. M.
He was also survived by by a grandson Mark Doby and a granddaughter Valerie Doby.
