Sister Julia Berse, 83, of Holy Family Convent, died Monday afternoon, November 9, 1987 at the Convent. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Main Celebrant of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Gabriel Hinkes, O.Praem. Concelebrant will be Rev. Benedict H. Marx. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.
She was born February 10, 1904 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, daughter of the late Louis and Kathryn Zimmerman Berse. The former Julia Berse entered the Convent in 1918, professing her vows in 1923. Sister Julia earned a B.A. degree from St. Norbert College, DePere, Wisconsin. Sister taught middle or upper grades in the following schools: St. John's, Antigo, Wisconsin; St. Rose, Clintonville, Wisconsin; St. John the Baptist, Plymouth, Wisconsin; St. Ann's, Francis Creek, Wisconsin; St. Boniface, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, Ohio; St. Mary's, Delaware, Ohio; Guardian Angels, Oneida, Wisconsin; St. Joseph's, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; St. Anthony's, Marinette, Wisconsin; St. Philip, Green Bay, Wisconsin; St. Joseph's, Rice Lake, Wisconsin and Immaculate Conception, Oneida, Wisconsin, where she was also the Principal. After her retirement from active ministry, she resided at Ozanam Home, New Berlin, Wisconsin, until she became ill in May, 1987.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Helen Gabler of Green Bay and Antoinette and Art Danielczyk of Tamarac, Florida; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lee Berse of Mequon, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday where a prayer service will be at 7 pm in the Convent Chapel. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
