Sergeant Dallas Young was the leader of a squad of Marines that was ambushed on May 12, 1966; of fourteen men, only two survived. Assistance to Sergeant Young and his men was delayed due to the enemy pinning U.S. military down with VC fire, and those risking their own lives to try to assist were injured, as well.

Dallas Clyde Young Jr was from the Salem, Illinois area, Protestant and married; he was 24 years old at the time of his death.

His brother, Danny C Young , also served in Vietnam. They both rest, side by side, in Paradise Cemetery.

Dallas' death is listed as "Hostile - Ground Casualty, Gun, Small Arms Fire", and his body is listed as recovered.

Mr. Young is listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall - Panel 07E, Line 56.
