She was born on September 24, 1929 in Greensboro to Harold Eugene Pugh and Winifred Witherspoon Pugh, deceased, and lived there most of her life. She attended Greensboro Senior High School and graduated from Duke University in 1951. While at Duke, she met her future husband and love of her life, Dr. Morgan R. Adams, Jr. of Louisville KY. They were married in 1952. Dr. Adams died from acute myeloid leukemia in 1963.
Surviving are her three sons, Morgan R. Adams, III of Greensboro, Dr. David H. Adams of New York, and William D. Adams of Chicago, six grandchildren, Jonathan Adams, Joshua Adams, Matthew Adams, Maria Adams, Hannah Adams, and one due next April, and five great grandchildren. She devoted her life to her three sons, sacrificing everything to provide a comfortable, loving, and stable environment for them.
Her home and kitchen were always open to our friends and she loved her role as "neighborhood mom". Besides her family, her other great passion was Duke Basketball which she followed intently. She was an original member of Starmount Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening, needle-point and bridge.
Her one wish in death was to be buried next to her husband. There will be a private graveside service for the family in Louisville, KY. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers from Comfort Keepers who have made her final months so peaceful, and Emily Young, who for four years took care of her every need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, Box 3003 DUMC , Durham, NC 27710.
Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel are assisting the family .
